The Web Poetry Corner - Phil Pochurek - Nothing Prepares You

Nothing Prepares You

by

Phil Pochurek

Nothing prepares you
The whole of your life
For the passing of your Mother.
It’s the sting of that phone call
That cuts like a knife
Deep into your heart like no other.
Often you’re told by someone you love
In words you’re not expecting to hear,
Blurring your vision as you go numb with disbelief
Then blinding you in a wellspring of tears.
There are no words when you try to speak
To ask how, or maybe where or when.
All you know is that she’s gone
And you’ll never see your Mother again.
There’s no one to say thank you to
For all those family years
Your Mom was always there for you
With a loving heart and a patient ear.
They’ll be no good-byes to tell her
No more hugs to let her know
How much you love her and miss her now
To say I love you before she goes.
Just know its Gods special blessing
That he called her in her sweet repose
To wake up beside him in the garden
Is what every Mother knows.
And when the tears of her passing have faded
In her wake of sweet release
Think of life everlasting for Carrie
Full of Joy, full of love, full of peace,
And her legacy that will remain.
Of a light that burned so brightly
To remind you why she came.
