The Web Poetry Corner - Peggy L. Lanning - Turn and Run
Turn and Run
by
Peggy L. Lanning
Telephones jingle,
faxes clack, folders
shout from toppling
stacks.
People dashing all
about, photo copies
spewing out. Deadline
battles with the clock,
noisy sound of tick
and tock.
Clients call, some
on hold, waiting for
attention. Stomach
lurches, oh my gosh
it's too early for this
tension.
Racing to my desk
I stumble, the cup in hand
takes a tumble. Although,
the day has just begun, I turn my
feet around and run.
Out the door in one huge push,
I bump in to my boss’ tush.
With a grumble and a look, he
makes me blush, and humble.
I turn around and march with
dread back amongst the fray,
I’m caught and all that I can do
is work ‘til end of day.
