The Web Poetry Corner - Paul E Sexton - I Return to Them
I Return to Them
by
Paul E Sexton
I pull up.
Family in the yard.
I watch his face
waiting
for the recognition
to click.
Yea, there it is.
He knows it’s me.
I love that little smile.
I’ll be sad
I think
when he gets so old
he doesn’t wobble
when he walks.
Open door
he climbs up
determined face
grabs the wheel
turning, beep, beep
we pick up
a beautiful
female passenger
and his eyes grow wide
with true depth
of feeling
and a serious look.
He calls out
MA-MA.!!
Truly
I must be
more alive
than all
the childless people
living alone
behind
still
silent
walls
