Learning to Serve

Have there been few of good intent
Upright men who did not bend
Serving no cause less than Life
Seeing all as part of it?

Who of the lot did not seek
Love in his earthly stay
Who knew that the arm is thought
Making apes intellectuals.

When we failed was not the cause
That stupidity had reversed
What we knew the better course
That our own brains proposed?

We ask for no miracles
Beyond life, that we revere
Service is our only cause
And way out of ignorance.
