The Web Poetry Corner - Mitch Lathen - When It's Over

When It's Over

by

Mitch Lathen

So live well and don't forget me
Each one I fear you will not do
Life has always been one harsh fiend
It's forever out to get you

I have not ever thought about
Just how I would feel on this day
When it's over, you're walking out
And I still love you all the same

You know I tried, God how I tried
But I just can't be what you need
For every last tear I have cried
My love's been strangled by a weed

It seems like a dream, you leaving
How can you pack up everything
When it's over, lights are dimming
I love you all over again

I'm not a sinner nor a saint
I've some regrets but not of this
I'll never wish I'd been away
Somehow, some day you will know this
To be true
Just as are
My feelings
Held for you
