The Web Poetry Corner - Misty Lanigan - If

If

by

Misty Lanigan

Here I am, thinking of you again
I try to keep occupied with other men
But my mind always tries to campare them to you
I catch myself doing this and try to change that too
My mind may be changed, but my heart is set
I can't seem to explain your new love to it yet
What if you're not happy with this new desire
This small chance is what fuels my fire
I wish for you to be happy, but I will always care for you
How can I say this without sounding like a fool
I can't seem to forget the tenderness you once showed me
Or the way I could talk and open up to you comfortably
Finding what we had with someone else is harder than I ever thought
How could I have known I already had the true love that I sought
I'm sorry for the pain I caused you or any I am inflicting now
But I can't go on anymore wondering what to say to you or how
Just remember I will always hold you as special in my heart
And make sure you remember me if you and your new lover ever part
