The Web Poetry Corner - McKenna Byrne - Invitation to the Dance

Invitation to the Dance

by

McKenna Byrne

Had we but known the labour lost
In passion and in song;
If youth had known what age has shown
Would we still pay the cost?

Our hearts and minds are now designed
For love of wiser kind
But with eyes cast upon the past
We might as well be blind.

It breathes no more what went before;
The wine is ours to pour
And tell me not our hearts cannot
Be conquered any more.
