Young Boys In River
by
Mango Tree
Ran gracefully with small, skinny legs
through the wheat fields of the midwestern US
hundreds of miles of corn and wheat
ran over the Black Bridge which crossed
the Minnesota River,
a bridge that was only for trains
and small boys looking for adventure
down the embankment Jim and I went
to dip our young bodies into the dangerous currents
meandering rivers forced to carry the snow melt
we only knew life, death was an unknown.
