Soldiers Walking Into the Night

by

Mango Tree

It does not really matter
It does not really matter
where the young armored,
restless, nervous soldiers
call their homeland,
nor, what their cause is
young men, young women
still walk heavily into this war life
that unbeknownst to them
one day will haunt them
killing, or the fear of being killed
is not easy to bear
terror, uneasiness
does take its toll upon
the human psyche,
and the soldiers walking into the night
and the soldiers walking into the night
walk into the future as they walk today
It does not really matter
It does not really matter
where the young armored,
restless, nervous soldiers
call their homeland
war has left a wound upon their souls,
or killed them.
