Today, like most other days
begins with the sun rising
an alarm clock, a yawn
a stubborness to rise out of bed
whether from a Sealy mattress or from the hard dirt
what matters, is that most of us actually get up
how we approach the day is unpredicable
so many variables effect this outcome
but some drive, some spiritual motivation
takes us one day at a time through the years
until the day approaches when we say, No mas!
was your life worth the effort, the worries, the sacrifices?
