The Web Poetry Corner - Mango Tree - Homeland

Homeland

by

Mango Tree

I read or hear about those that call
themselves nationalistic,
ones that are bound and determined
to either die at war for their country
or encourage a young person to die instead
or proclaim to die on the hallowed
grounds or dirt of a birthplace
the Native Americans of the United States
always felt that no one owned land
instead, we visit it for a lifetime
and one day leave our bones upon it
nationalism only breeds separateness
too much pomp and circumstance, and hatred.
