The Web Poetry Corner - Mango Tree - FROZEN IN THE MOMENT
FROZEN IN THE MOMENT
by
Mango Tree
It's four o'clock
In the afternoon
On a Sunday, in July
Sounds of birds
Drift across the valley
Streaks of sunlight
Thrust themselves across
The bush below
Leaving shadows behind
All plants that stand tall
Clouds are scattered across
A blue sky, moving clouds
Contours permeate the landscape
It's winter in the Hinterland
A stillness consumes the moment
A stillness so pervasive that
Not even the birds' chatter
Can pierce it for more than
A moment
My body sits
My body sits quietly
This body that I call my own
Does not move
This stillness somehow captivates me
I am frozen in the moment,
One after another
I am frozen in the moment,
One after another
The pulse of the landscape
Matches my own pulse
We travel together now
We travel together now
And, this sojourn adjusts itself
As each moment in silence passes.
