Beating Sun

Mango Tree

Hot, sticky Australian day
hot ocean, hot tiles, scourging hot tin roof
the ozone hole allows so many extra rays
to enter the atmosphere, everyone wears hats
the children on the playgrounds,
most that sit on the beaches,
the paddock workers, the farmers
intense heat beating down upon skulls
it takes its daily toll.
