The Web Poetry Corner - M A Heathcote - Cold comfort

Cold comfort

by

M A Heathcote

Cold comfort, come to me
But don’t build my hopes
Beyond a dream!

Cold comfort, come to me
We’ll build a bridge
Across the sea!

Cold comfort, come to me
In the night like a humming bird
In a star lit, dew lit tree.

Cold comfort, come to me
Lift your wings and set me free.

Just you wait and you will see
Cold comfort, come to me.

Like a love that can never be
The secrecy of you
Is now a camouflage in me?
Cold comfort, come to me.

Like a truth that cannot last or be
I was imprisoned in your eyes
Cold comfort came to me
Cold comfort you’ve imprisoned me.

Now I’ll walk your road of eternity
Now if you’d not fall in love with me
Cold comfort would not have followed me.
Ghostly down this road into my own Perpetuity.
