The Chinese girls of old


M A Heathcote

The pearl in the oyster
Is as naked as the girl
In a leaf worlds furl
That doesn’t want her.

She is truly the dog’s mutton
Or else made a concubine!
She is a forsaken orphan
Starved of hope; malign!

Because parents need a son!
Too bring an old age ease?
Grovelling she walked, swollen
-bound footed, on her knees
All this; she did too humbly,
