The Web Poetry Corner - M A Heathcote - Put a compress on my heart

Put a compress on my heart

by

M A Heathcote

Oh put a compress on my heart
And nurse me back to health
In your arms; in your arms

And before and after
We heal one another
Just remember the tears
The pain and the laughter
We shared in them years...

As a father as a mother
To our, one,
And only, son;

Who could burn?
His innocent little fingers
On a box of swan vester matches

And did lose his life to a fool
With a gun
A hoodlum, drug baron...

Oh put a compress on my heart
As Im still bleeding
I still feel his wounds still leaking
His palm still feeling
For my hand, for my hand
For those reigns again
To stand:
Stand up-strong by my side.

Oh put a compress on my heart
And nurse me back to health
In your arms, in your arms.
