The Web Poetry Corner - M A Heathcote - Baby Abigail

Baby Abigail

by

M A Heathcote

From the book of chronicles
From the books of Samuel 1, 2, and 3,
As her name decrees
As we give thanks and light candles
As she cradles-pink on her father’s knee
Abigail a fountain of joy
Abigail her father Joseph’s joy:
As she cries her frail welcoming tears of hope
Heard by her mother Lara
Who holds her up like a new bar of soap?
She’ll one day place a golden Tiara
On her little princesses head
And in her heart she will not curtail
Her daughter’s new wings her own equal spread
For in this mirror that needs no guardrail
There is only the beauty that is she; Abigail.
