The Web Poetry Corner - M A Heathcote - A red light

A red light

by

M A Heathcote

A red light glows in the distance
A red light is a sign
A red light warns of danger
A red light when were together
A red light never turns to amber or green
When our hearts start to tire and scream.

A red light growls like a jealous lover
A red light is sometimes given
But it doesn’t really matter
As long as you‘ve already
Forgiven each other:

A red light is a convict’s ego bruised
A red light is an angel dead at a roadside lost
A red light is in the hearts of all of us
Floating into endless infinity confused
Feeling lonely and abused
Empty on a winding, windless, breeze...

A red light growls like a jealous lover
A red light is sometimes given
But it doesn’t really matter
As long as you’ve already
Forgiven and opened your hearts
To one and another:

A red light is a harbour on the hard shoulder
A red light is always blinking if you’re heart is broken
A red light is drinking whisky in an empty bed alone
A red light is a mustang rodeo woman
When her big time clown lover
Wants a fight with a gun to cut you down.

A red light is a mustang rodeo woman
When her big time clown lover
Wants a fight to prove his manhood
With a shaky glooved gun hand he wants
To draw a line in the sand and cut you down
And put you in a big old wooden box
In a dust hole in the ground
Just out of town
Just to see if you can bleed.

A red light growls like a jealous lover
A red light is sometimes given
But it doesn’t really matter
As long as you’ve already
Forgiven and opened your hearts
To one and another there'll be
God,s good grace
There'll be a time you feel the amber
the green of life and the forever, thereafter!
