Watched through the wings of a bird
by
M A Heathcote
Investigative cock-robin peering down your beak
Does a boy lay down that much interest?
Beneath your hawthorn scraggy-wired feet;
Or is it just I you’d romance into rest_
Turning full circle from the spades cutting edge
Do tell? Dear little friend of the copse and fen
Do you really understand the ways of men?
For my heart is as still as ice-carved jade
Watching through the eyes of the earth,
Watched through the wings of a bird
