Candle wax sky
by
M A Heathcote
Pellucid blue eyes who ever told you to be wise
To dream through those midnight, white-cloud skies
To drink the midnight curtain of sleep,
Into the waking hour.
Like a carnivorous, green flower
Like a sun spider, sunning on a rock
Like a worm in the pippin of an eye
Looking down on a candle wax sky
Whoever said it would be easy to dream
Whoever said that those darker blankets of velvet-red
Wouldn't cover your miserable head
With those blooded-thorns of a rose bed.
