The Web Poetry Corner - Lydia Laurel - Forest Paradise

Forest Paradise

by

Lydia Laurel

She walked into the deep, dark forest,
Never wondering how she was to return.
She thought and thought and looked around her --
There were so many things she wanted to learn.

She wanted to see the greatly feared forest,
To see what people hated and feared.
She wanted to know why it was forbidden,
Forgetting those who had disappeared.

She saw in the distance a flicker of light,
Like a fire so small, and yet so bright.
She ran and she ran, so gleefully smiling,
Towards that small, comforting bit of light.

When she reached the light, she saw a place
Like a dream, standing there before her eyes
And she joined the lost ones when she learned
That they had stayed when they saw this paradise.

They had all preferred it to their homes,
For the town was small and poor,
While this place was rich and beautiful,
With great happiness galore!
