PEANUT BRUTAL
by

Under the stars and windy moon
during our dinner of laughter and leizure
stories were being exchanged
of highs and lows
of the days and weeks that slipped past
At once we were all silenced
a young boy appeared at our table
two earrings - one in each ear
immediatly without hesitation
he began his recitation
Using his tongue to conceal
the huge piece of blue bubble gum
it showed his age on this akward stage
surely he was only ten
At first I was listening
then I began wondering
why was this little guy not at home?
it was very late to be walking the streets alone
He used both arms and a knee
to prop the substance of his plea
did this child ever get held in such a way?
only a few years ago
when he didn't have a word to say
did someone hold him in such a way?
There I sat
surrounded by all that one should ask
yet I had nothing
In a matter of moments
he was through
he managed to get a donation from a table or two
I watched as he crossed the street
I let this soul de dismissed -
dismissed into the arms of darkness
without a word of hope
a piece of my heart
nothing
He pushed his peanut brittle
to the cars waiting to turn left
This boy unknowingly in turn left
a donation of his own with me
I think of the giving I must do
Alas
I have been given so much
not only in touch
I am the benefactor of the untouched -
love overflowing
