The Web Poetry Corner - Luigi Lalumia - Oops

Oops

by

Luigi Lalumia

Naked I stepped under the cascading showerhead
The warm water began to soak me
With the warm water came relief
One of the water streams strayed from the heard
It began stinging my hip
The high pressure shot felt like I was being tatooed

Drenched I remembered the shampoo
I left in the other bathroom
Damn it!
I gotta get out and get it!
I don't wanna but I gotta!

I peered through the mist and dew
Fretting what I must do
I pushed the door open
Letting the water run
I leave the warm and wet sanctuary
To enter into the cold and dry

Just then the fan came on
Like a thousand piranha devouring a helpless carcass
The blowing air nipped at every part of my body
My heaving man-breasts are bare
I'm frozen there
Move!
The rest of me said

Step one wasn't so bad
There was the rug
Water puddled footprints tracked across the linolium floor
Leaving a clue
Same as that water monster on Scooby Doo

On my retreat I felt the soaking footsteps
I made in the carpet going to retrieve
The object of my greif
Each step I cursed through gritting teeth

I think of all cold things
One in particular
Breaking though an ice covered pond
Then sinking into the bone chilling beyond

Finally - it seemed
I shucked the towel from my frozen toso
Again I stepped under the cascading showerhead
Again with the warm water came relief
Or so I thought
As I rinsed off the piranha
A thought came to me

I would have made an awful Navy Seal!
