Memorial Memories

Fight to the end
Fight till victory has overcome the darkness
Fight till the blood no longer fills the streets
Fight till the blood no longer covers the leaves
Fight till the politicians are satisfied with their victories
Diplomatic courtesy has its place
It's not here -
Ankle deep in the blood and bones of our nations youth
A youth that will never see home again
Sent off to face an evil that turns the young into dead
While their memories linger for eternity in our head
Kids became heroes and victims
While fighting for their Mom and Dad
Honorably casting fear and self aside
They shed their blood to protect our flag
They gave their life to preserve a life that they will never have
These warriors have gone before me
Some my very age
They bravely gave the ultimate sacrifice
Breath, life and future
To be trampled and tortured by the enemy
So that I may sit here on this day
Safe and free
On this Memorial Day I remember the soldiers
I pause in silent tribute...
For those that fought for me
That died for us all
Because of the brave and the dead
All I know of war is what I've heard or read
On this day I honor their fall
On this day I remember the Wall
