The Web Poetry Corner - Luigi Lalumia - I Am The Father
I Am The Father
by
Luigi Lalumia
Father
Four rows of mother, daughter and son
Stand in front of my face. This
I suppose is a reflection of the
Significance and beauty of a mother’s role. Daughntingly
My eyes trace
Down, down, down.
There at my feet. In
One little row
Is the place where fathers go.
My God- I thought. This solitary enigma
Reflects my role! My
Fingertips play chopsticks along their spines.
Reciting the titles under my breath remind me of
Of the time I have left. Images
Of the child I was intertwine with
The children I have. We briefly rub elbows
In my mind. This
Thinking interrupts the projector
In my head. Overlapping celluloid’s bleed into
Each other. For
One moment-
Me, my daughter and my son
See as one. Then
I am alone again. I
Am the father.
