The Web Poetry Corner - Lee Emmett - Holy Tryst
Holy Tryst
by
Lee Emmett
as mother died
her last breaths came softly
she was ready to meet
her ancestral hosts
into deep night
her soul leapt above us
straight to the warm arms
of her waiting lord
we kept quiet vigil
in awe of her journey
each knew our turn
would come in its time
fear of the moment
of soul’s sacred passage
gave way to wonder,
tenderness, love
life left her body
as spirit rose mightily
into bright heavens
received by her god
upturned hands rest now
white, still and silent
cool as a monument
testament to peace
