The Web Poetry Corner - Laramie Lee Roecker - The Next Step

The Next Step

by

Laramie Lee Roecker

You know I love you,
And I know you love me.
But there's this trivial little thing
Missing, you see?

It is the nominal status of significant other,
A state, to many, like no other.
So I have a question to ask you--
In a form like no other.

But oh, is it too soon to ask?
Is it too late?
Is now just the right time?
These are questions I've had to debate.

Well I've got butterflies in my stomach
And I just want them to go away.
So for whatever rationale is in my mind,
I'm compelled to ask you this very day.

Rather than a ring, I offer you my heart
While on one knee I am bend.
Please take it and hold it dear
And be my girlfriend.
