You cannot quench my thirst

my inner rage

that weaves itself through

my body and mind
You cannot kill the spirit

inside of me

the soul that yearns and

pulls to make

a difference in this world
You will not destroy me

nor oppress me

though you may aim to do so
You may charge into my house

with knives and guns held high

teeth nashing and sour words spilling

But no matter your words and actions

you will never break me
I will always be free

of mind

of heart

of soul
Though you can rape me,

chain me,

flog me senseless,
you will never,

ever,

cage a free bird like me.
