The Web Poetry Corner - Karen Layer - Two Of Me

Two Of Me

by

Karen Layer

When I laugh too loud
You roll yor eyes
I've gained some weight
What's wrong with me
If my shirts too tight
My mother cries
Lost a few
Now I look sickly

I'm in a crowd
Yet I'm all alone
I want, I crave so much
Too much I guess
I want all my
Emotions known
To do a handstand
In this dress

But I'm all wrong
I hear you - WRONG
You must be right...

There's two of me
There's two of me
The one I am
The one they see

We're drinking now
I'm having fun
I think we connect
Beyond compare
It feels to me
I've finally won
But then you say
You hate my hair
This way -
Back to square one...

There's two of me
There's two of me
The one I am
Then one you see

Why can I get it right with life
But not the people in it
The human race, I'm in the lead
I think that I can win it
But then
I stop a minute to turn around and...

They're watching us
They're pointing
Yes, we're doing it again
We do things wrong
We kiss too long
While in the lions den

Will we ever get this right
Dare we show our happiness?
Is it really worth the fight
When they want us to be less?

Thank God
There's one of us
There's one of us
The one we are
One they discuss

There's two of me
There's two of me
The one I am
The one they see
