The Web Poetry Corner - Joyce Hemsley - One of Britain's Best (118)

One of Britain's Best (118)

by

Joyce Hemsley

Following in Family Footsteps

Did you know that Charles Dickens
had a great-granddaughter?
"MONICA ENID" was her name,
Nurse and novelist of fame.

With gentle hand she wrote of prisoners,
of green grass ~ sea and sand.
She wrote of beautiful flowers:
roses that bloom in the motherland.

Not long ago she died age seventy-seven.
We recall her name with thanks and pride.
Our thoughts will be with her thoughts
as she rests in highest heaven.
