PHILIP ARTHUR LARKIN CH,CBE,FRSL.
Beloved British Poet
Born, Coventry, nineteen twenty-two
Died, Hull, nineteen eighty-five.
He was unmarried; died of cancer,
and is buried at Cottingham Cemetery.
Philip Larkin was educated at Coventry's
King Edward VIII School, and St,John's
Oxford - where he graduated, making a
lifetime career as University Librarian.
He favoured the poetic works of Yeats and
Hardy. "Aubade" and "The Less Deceived"
being his own popular pieces. His list of
publications includes "The Whitsun
Weddings" and "High Windows", this being
his last, in 1974...A note of his many
works maybe seen by using Google Search.
With the sad death of John Betjeman,
Philip Larkin was offered, but declined
the appointment of Laureate.
I have so enjoyed writing these few
words about the modern poet, novelist
and jazz critic Philip Larkin;
I intend to read more.
