The Web Poetry Corner - Joyce Hemsley - Henry Hudson
Henry Hudson
by
Joyce Hemsley
No doubt you've heard of Henry Hudson,
British explorer from long long ago.
He ventured into stormy water, hoping
to reach The North East Passage, but
failed many times, in ice and snow,
as archives show.
He sailed up the Hudson River,
the first European so to do!
Found Hudson strait and Hudson Bay
and New York Harbor too.
He died at forty-one, with eight crew
and his son - small boat adrift in the
Hudson Water...but he had a dream,
that some future day, his name would
belong to Hudson Way. This was so,
the Archives show.
