John Cadbury

If you enjoy Cadbury's chocolate -
as I am sure you must, then you
will be wondering how it all began.
Read on:
JOHN CADBURY - born in Birmingham,
England in eighteen-0-one, and died
in Birmingham eighteen eighty-nine,
started with a small chocolate
business, which became "big-time".
John Cadbury himself, always felt
that health-giving cocoa and chocolate
should take the place of alcohol -
which he suggested, was the cause
of all ills. John's brother Benjamin
Cadbury, helped greatly within the
business from eighteen forty-seven
to eighteen sixty.
Apart from his interest in chocolate,
John also campaigned to put a stop
to boy chimney sweeps; and campaigned
against cruelty to animals, he formed
societies for both. His first wife
died after two years of marriage, and
he re-married in eighteen thirty-two;
had seven children, and on his
retirement, two of the sons, Richard
and George, continued building the
business in a small village called
"Bournbrook"...leading to the blend
of chocolate named Bournville.
Hence the world said hello to one
of the largest producers of chocolate
Cadbury-Schweppes, and we remember
John Cadbury and his family with
thanks and gratitude, especially on
birthdays and at Christmastime.
