Series of famous British names:
British Liberal Prime Minister
Rt. Hon. William Ewart GLADSTONE
born in Liverpool, England,
eighteen-o-nine
Died eighteen ninety-eight.
William Gladstone was educated
at Eton and Oxford, and at the age
of twenty-four, he opened the door
of office, as a Tory (1833) but in
1859 he changed his thinking...
From Tory to Liberal.
On reading about this great politician
I find he was Chancellor twice, and
four times Prime Minister of Britain,
WILLIAM EWART GLADSTONE to be precise,
and this was no meagre achievement!
A political career for sixty years of
his life, resigning four years before
he died. In Westminster Abbey, his
remains abide, and here are a few dates
to remind us.
1868-1874 Gladston Prime Minister
1874-1880 Disraeli Prime Minister
1880-1885 Gladsone Prime Minister
1886- Gladstone, but soon resigned
(In opposition for six years)
1892-1894 Gladstone Prime Minister.
He resigned.
I quote three lines from a Gladstone
Speech made in eighteen sixty-eight:
All the world over
I will back the masses
against the classes.
Such a dedicated Briton GLADSTONE
we will never forget his fame, and
we will always remember and honour
his great name.
