Series of famous British names:
JOHN BUNYAN
(Pilgrim's Progress)
Author and Poet.
Born in Bedfordhire
sixteen twenty-eight
Died at Snow Hill
sixteen eighty-eight.
In his teens, John Bunyan
was called into the army,
for a two year period.
He was a baptist at heart
although suffered doubts
about his religious belief,
until he met and befriended
Pastor John Gifford, who
influenced Bunyan to teach
and preach the word of God
outside of the church. This
was illegal; in sixteen-sixty
John Bunyan was caught
preaching near a farmhouse.
Hence he was arrested and
served his twelve year
Sentence at Bedford County
Gaol...whilst in his cell,
he wrote "Grace Abounding 1666"
a story on his knowledge of
Poverty and his early wayward
religious thinking. But of
course, John Bunyan had a deep
personal love of God. He was
elected Pastor of the Bedford
Congregation.
Three years onward, and he was
sentenced again to a shorter
stay in gaol, and commenced
writing The Pilgrim's Progress
Part 1, and later Part 2, which
are successful until this day.
More great publications and poems
include
Life and Death of Mr. Badman
The Holy War (1682)
and Confession of My Faith.
I personally admire his two
famous lines in Pilgrim's Progress:
"He that is down, needs fear no fall
He that is low, no pride."
