Sir John Barbirolli
by
Joyce Hemsley
Series of famous
British names:
Conductor to the Halle Orchestra
~SIR JOHN BARBIROLLI~
Conductor Laureate for Life.
I once enjoyed a Barbirolli Concert
at the Nottingham Albert Hall, an
evening I often recall. He possessed
that certain brilliance when he was
conducting the great composers' music
and was honoured with a Knighthood in
nineteen forty-nine. From a photograph
I hold right now, Sir John is smoking
and engrossed in the sheet music of
Vaughan Williams' Fifth Symphony.
Two great men, and great music.
