SIR CHARLES SPENCER CHAPLIN
British Film Actor and Producer
Born in London, England, and
died at the age of eighty-eight.
Charles Chaplin first appeared
on stage when he was five years
old. He was famed worldwide for
silent movies, acting as a poor
little tramp, with moustache,
bowler hat and cane. Chaplin's
Gold Rush was a successful film,
as were many more of the silent
kind. His first speaking role was
in The Great Dictator - Hitler
obviously! Then he made the film
Monsieur Verdoux in 1947 and
discarded the bowler hat and cane.
In nineteen seventy-five he was
knighted...always known as plain
Charlie Chaplin, married four
times. This trampish little man of
the silent screen will never ever
be forgotten ~ he made his mark
and the archives will honour
him well.
