Gustav Theodore Holst and Ralph Vaughan Williams

Series of famous
names - the music
of history:
British Composers
GUSTAV THEODORE HOLST
died 1934 age sixty.
RALPH VAUGHAN WILLIAMS
died 1958 age eighty-six.
I think it is fair to join
the names of Vaughan Williams
with that of Gustav Holst,
both twentieth century
composers of orchestral
and choral music.
Gustav Holst came from a
family of musicians. Music of
all kinds was his life, and
in his teens he became organist
and choirmaster at a church
in the Cotswold area. He wrote
a multitude of English music,
songs, orchestral and choral,
The Hymn of Jesus...I am at
present playing his Marching
Song, and then on to The
Planets' Suite.
VAUGHAN WILLIAMS was known
for his Pastoral Symphony
and among a huge musical score,
his Sinfonia Antartica - film
music! The Ninth Symphony is
great, as is all of his music.
Honoured nineteen thirty-five.
Great names we will remember
with respect. Their music we will
not forget. Music to be enjoyed
for years and years to come.
