~DAME MARGOT FONTEYN~
Prima Ballerina of the Royal
Ballet, made her debut in 1934 with
The Haunted House and Giselle.
With grace and beauty, she was one
of the world's classical dancers,
President of the Royal Academy and
created a Dame in nineteen fifty-six.
Dame Margot partnered the great
Rudolf Nureyev in the ballet Giselle.
He was twenty years her junior, and
they were the perfect dancing pair.
At the moment I am admiring a 'photo
of them dancing together in Giselle,
and when they danced as Romeo and
Juliet it was sheer "poetry in motion."
Margot Fonteyn was married to
Roberto Arias, the Panamanian
ambassador to the United Kingdom.
He died in nineteen eighty-nine,
and very sadly Margot died of cancer
in nineteen ninety-one, at age
seventy-two... greatly missed, she
will be remembered by many many
generations of ballet dancers,
and we honour her name.
