The Web Poetry Corner - Joyce Hemsley - Lovers' Lane

Lovers' Lane

by

Joyce Hemsley

Brightly coloured taffeta from a distant shore,
Expensive gowns and lingerie, luxuries galore,
All to win a maiden's hand .. the beauty he adores.

Sweetly scented roses, flowers of rarest hue;
Diamonds and emeralds, gold and silver too.
All to win his lover's hand .. the one he loves so true.

The latest model motor car, a villa or two in Spain,
A holiday upon the moon - there and back again!
All to woo his lady fair .. down in Lovers' Lane.
