When I was young, a favourite
poet of mine was John Masefield,
born in the nineteenth century;
Seaman and writer of salt-water
ballads, his poems had great
rhythm and rhyme :
"Sea Fever" and "Cargoes" -
two of his best, will be read
and enjoyed through all time.
He died as a Laureate in
nineteen sixty seven, and
for all the poems he gave
whilst on earth, may he
rest through the portals
of Heaven.
