The Web Poetry Corner - Joyce Hemsley - Her Alone

Her Alone

by

Joyce Hemsley

Eyes that once gazed into mine,
Hands that reached for love,
The fairest face in all the land
Sent from the heavens above.

She meant the whole wide world to me,
But lo - away she flew,
So in love with an officer bold,
My heart was torn in two!

With sadness and humility,
I watch her passing by -
If only she would turn and smile,
A languishing fool am I.

The heart that once belonged to me,
Will never more be mine; and a
Hundred secret tears will flow
as for her alone I pine.
