The Web Poetry Corner - Joyce Hemsley - Golden Pen
Golden Pen
by
Joyce Hemsley
Dear England, how I love you;
I will never leave your side.
Born here - I will die here.
With thee I will abide.
I love your towns and cities
and your history of the seas,
your Cathedrals and your Churches,
your vales and hills so green.
Such splendour shines in summer,
fresh leaves adorn each tree;
and flowers of all colours bloom
with grace and dignity.
Memories of a battle fought
some sixty years ago,
live on within the autumn air
as British archives show.
Queen and country so beloved,
great poets exalt your name.
Distinguished Seat of Learning,
and Majestic Hall of Fame.
As I roam across your countryside,
my heart is filled with pride,
and with golden pen I sign a pledge:
'With Thee I will Abide'.
