The Web Poetry Corner - Joyce Hemsley - Game. Set and Match.

Game. Set and Match.

by

Joyce Hemsley

A ponytail and crisp white dress,
Complexion fresh with tan,
Unknown within the sporting world,,
Just a pretty tennis fan.

Fifteen-love; thirty-love,
Thank Heaven, she is winning!
Forty-love .. this is unreal,
The thrill is just beginning.

But shame, a volley she has missed,
Nowhere to run and hide -
The score is floating up to deuce,
And 'vantage - the other side.

One last chance, her skill to prove,
And control the spinning ball;
But "set and match" soon echoed
from the umpire's final call.
