The Web Poetry Corner - Joyce Hemsley - First Flower of Spring

First Flower of Spring

by

Joyce Hemsley

A glittering ring attracted his eye,
'twas in a shop window as he idly passed by;
diamonds and opals in nine carat gold,
her favourite stones, so he was told!

He could ne'er be content till his money was spent,
and he had bought that beautiful ring, and he
longed for the day, love might come his way,
and he would marry the 'first flower of spring'.
