The Web Poetry Corner - Joyce Hemsley - A Hey Nonino
A Hey Nonino
by
Joyce Hemsley
WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE,
who died in the
seventeenth century,
left a legacy of
sonnets and plays.
Who could deny his
pure genius? He will
live in our hearts
through the days.
His fine words flow,
his beliefs they show.
He wrote about beauty
and the cold winds
that blow -
"with a hey and a ho
and a hey nonino".
Who is Sylvia?
A most popular poem.
A Mid-Summer Night's
Dream - a most popular
play.
May I steal his words
when I honestly say:
"Holy fair and wise
was he, the Heavens
such talent did lend
him".
