The Web Poetry Corner - John William McGrath III - The Cow
The Cow
by
John William McGrath III
The cow is in the wheat field trampling all the grain,
and now it seems so useless waiting for the rain,
As I watch her walking she breaks into a lope,
And here I am a wondering, is there any hope.
In the days ahead I'm afraid I'll lose my land,
But then come all my neighbors, giving me a hand.
The little things I'd done for them, it didn't seem a lot,
I was glad to help them, there's no way I could not.
Each one vowed at harvest, I could have a field,
And each one gave a handshake, and said their debt was sealed.
And now I look to heaven, then down to the sod,
In each face I look, I see the face of God.
