Survival
by
John William McGrath III
I was being attacked by a man with a knife
As I fought him I said, "get out" to my wife
I could feel everything it seemed so real
Until I awoke and wondered what is the deal?
A quiet night with a breeze I could hear
On the bed sleeping was my darling dear
The next morning everything was the same
I had breakfast and continued life's game
But now I am thinking forty years later
May I have been killed by this person hater
Can this life I have lived be only a dream
All succeeding experiences not as they seem
The will for survival is exceedingly strong
Did my mind decide to just string along?
Am I living because I won't believe I died
My family continued there after they cried?
