The Web Poetry Corner - John William McGrath III - Scream

Scream

by

John William McGrath III

Late one night I awoke from a terrible dream
I noticed I had let out a piercing scream
It shattered the window hit the neighbor's wall
Came back thru the hole and down the hall

It took a right at the kitchen and up the vent
The moon was so bright I missed where it went
But I heard it's echo as it whizzed by the tree
Then angled up again until it was free

Though no longer piercing it still sounded loud
I looked outside at the gathering crowd
Some said it's the devil whistling sin
I was really frightened until I woke up again
