Horses And Ruth
by
John William McGrath III
A sweet potato, cube of sugar, carrot or an apple
Tell me... What do these things have in common?
What is bay, roan, black, white, grey or dapple?
They have been around before Tutankammen
They're a horse's treat! A most beautiful of friends
Is there an animal more majestic than a noble steed?
A horse is so graceful any way he stretches or bends
She loves you and always follows where you lead
There are some people that a horse will follow always
To my daughter, there is no such thing as a wild horse
Wild mustangs find her and approach her many days
Even when others are with her, they find her of course
I know she has always loved horses even as an infant
It would seem there is an imprint that can be read
Any horse around is eager to be near and confident
She will give them love and fondle ears and head
A horse near Ruth will bow it's head to her it's true
Then show the other horses what a feat it was
It is peculiar because the others want to do it too
I have had people ask me to tell them what she does
But cowboys and cowgirls that really know their stuff
Will tell you she is one of "THEM" a blessed cowgirl born
I say a nature goddess born to us, a diamond in the rough
Who's special friend's the horse, strong, beautiful and tough
